KARACHI: City gets 72mgd less water


KARACHI, Oct 25: A major electricity breakdown affected all pumping stations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board on Monday that caused serious hindrance in bulk water supply to the city.

Due to this interruption, the city received 72.726mgd less water on Monday.

According to the KWSB, the supply of electricity was unexpectedly interrupted in Dhabeji, Gharo, Pipri, North East Karachi and K-II pumping stations from 5.15am to 9.30am, which caused water shortage in the city. The power failure also hit water pumping stations at Nawa Pul, Future Colony, BS-2, LSR, BS- 3, Federal B Area as well as the sewerage pumping stations.

Different areas of the city, including Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony and Gulshan-i-Hadeed were affected.

Sewerage system was sternly affected due to the interruption of electric supply at TP-3 from 5:15am to 8:50am, TP-1 from 5:15am to 9:45am and Pumping Station-2 Korangi from 5:15am to 11:30am.

Meanwhile, a 72-inch diameter rising was closed due to leakage caused by the electricity breakdown at Hub Pumping Station. Emergency maintenance of the affected line was initiated on the directive of KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftikhar Haider. The repair work was completed on Monday evening, sources said. -PPI
