BD opposition leaders attacked

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, Oct 25: Former Bangladesh president Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury and Gano Forum leader Dr Kamal Hossain came under attack on Monday in by students in Mymensingh

The Awami League accused the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of having engineered the attack.

This was the second attack on them in less than week. The two opposition leaders were harassed, and some 40 of their supporters were injured when the BNP activists attacked a similar programme at Rangpur Town Hall on October 19.

However, in Mymensingh, the supporters of the two leaders and the on-duty policemen saved them from being hurt by the attack.

The attackers damaged the windowpanes and furniture of Amir International Hotel, where the two leaders were holding a dialogue with the local elite with a view to formulating a 'people's manifesto' based on the opinions of grassroots people.

After the police removed the attackers from the auditorium, Dr Kamal Hossain took the microphone and said: "I will see the end of such activities and I am ready to die if they want."
