Committee discusses fund allocation

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 24: A meeting of a special committee formed by the Balochistan assembly discussed the issues raised by opposition members in the house regarding allocation of funds in the public sector development programme.

Assembly Speaker Jamal Shah Kakar chaired the deliberations. Ministers Hafiz Hamadullah and Mir Asghar Rind represented the government whereas leader of the opposition Kachkol Ali Baloch, Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal of the PMAP, Nawab Aslam Raisani of the PPP, Mir Akbar Mengal of the BNP-M and Mir Saleem Ahmed Khoso of the JWP were from the opposition side.

Parliamentary leader of the Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mr Ziaratwal told Dawn on Sunday that the next meeting of the committee would be held in a couple of days to discuss the grievances of opposition members for not accommodating their proposals in the development projects.

He alleged that the PSDP had been prepared to accommodate particular ministers, and said that opposition members demanded revision of the public sector development programme to cover all areas in the province.

Mr Ziaratwal said opposition MPAs and the departments concerned had submitted recommendations for the PSDP 2004-05, but the planning and development department at the behest of some ministers ignored their proposals.

He stated that the opposition members would not satisfy unless the government play a fair game to adjust all members of the house irrespective of their political affiliations.

The meeting, he said, could not complete its work as Finance Minister Syed Ehsan Shah and Local Government Minister Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Shurudy were not present in the deliberations.

Father, two children killed: A man and his two children were crushed to death and four others injured seriously by a speedy pick-up near Pishin on Sunday, police said.

Muladad was waiting for transport along with his five children and a sister by the roadside. When the Khanozai-bound pick-up coming from Quetta hit them. As a result Muladad and his 10-year-old daughter Jamila and two-year-old son Atiq died on the spot while his sister and three other children were injured. Police have arrested the driver Jamil Ahmad.
