MMA plans to launch drive against govt

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 24: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has said that attempts to sabotage democratic process in the country would not be tolerated, and any such conspiracy would be resisted.

The MMA's Karachi chapter, which met here at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Sunday with Hafiz Muhammad Taqi in the chair, said that the MMA leadership would launch a mass-contact campaign against what it called 'anti-democracy' policies of the rulers.

The meeting pointed out that if commitment to shed his army uniform was not honoured by President Gen Pervez Musharraf by Dec 31, 2004, it would be tantamount to an 'open treason' and the rulers had to face severe reaction from the people turning the situation beyond the control of the regime.

The meeting observed that five-year army rule had turned out to be a 'curse' for the poor and downtrodden people of the country, as the rulers had failed miserably to provide any relief to the common man and the people wanted to get rid of them.

The meeting decided to begin preparations for holding a big public meeting on Nov 28 at Nishtar Park against the army rulers and to highlight the uniform issue at Iftar parties and other gatherings to mobilize the public opinion in this regard.
