KARACHI, Oct 22: Peshawar enjoyed an upper hand on the first day of their four-day Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match against Karachi Blues at Quaid-i-Azam Park ground, Steel Township on Friday.
Put to bat first by Peshawar skipper Wajahatullah Wasti, Karachi Blues were 221 for seven wickets at stumps on a low and slow track. Skipper Rashid Latif with 16 and Azam Hussain with zero were at the crease when play ended for the day.
The home team suffered a setback when Khalid Latif was trapped lbw by Waqar Ahmed in the second over. However, left handed Shadab Kabir and Naumanullah added 101 runs for the second wicket.
Shadab went after making 59 with five fours and a six in 144 minutes while Nauman followed him shortly as he fell lbw victim to Fazle Akber. Naumanullah during 162 minute vigil at the crease hit just two boundaries in his 38.
Karachi Blues in mini-collapse lost three wickets for five runs to slump to 181 for six with Janisar Khan claiming two wickets. Hasan Raza hit three fours in his 44 before adjudged lbw off Janisar Khan while Farhan Adil went to Arshad Khan for 29 and then Janisar had Imran Javed caught by Riffat in the slip for a naught.
Saeed Bin Nasir was the last batsman to be dismissed for 23. Off-break bowler Arshad was the pick of Peshawar bowling attack with three wickets for 55 runs in 29 overs.

Meanwhile, pacer Yasir Arafat snapped five wickets for 45 against Quetta to put Rawalpindi in strong position on the opening day of the Quaid Trophy clash at Bugti Stadium on Friday, according to reports reaching here.
Quetta batting first were shot out for 156 in 45 overs. Yasir received good support from Rao Iftikhar (three for 48) and Alamgir Khan (two for 31). Rawalpindi in their reply were 131 for two wickets scored off 36 overs and need only 25 runs to take first innings lead.
