KARACHI, Oct 22: All private medical colleges have, in principle, agreed to reimburse the amount deposited in advance by students under the heads of admission fee and tuition fee at their respective institutions but may have succeeded in getting admission to some public sector college on merit later.
A mutual understanding was reached during a meeting between Sindh Health Secretary Prof Naushad Sheikh and vice-chancellors of various universities, as well as principals of different colleges in the province.
Prof Sheikh told APP here on Friday that the issue had been taken up with the administrations of private medical institutions in the larger interest of local students.
According to him, he cited the plight of the students and their parents who often hastened to avail an opportunity for provisional registration offered by any private medical institution.
It would be pertinent to mention that the students waiting for their intermediate results may be registered at a private medical institution by paying a certain amount as 'advance fee' while having a little idea of the aggregate percentage required for admission to a public sector medical college on merit basis.
The meeting in this regard, according to Mr Sheikh, was attended by vice-chancellors of Baqai Medical University, Hamdard Medical University, Ziauddin Medical University and Sir Syed Medical University; and principals of Fatima Jinnah Dental College, Mohammadi Medical College (Mirpurkhas), and Jinnah Medical College. -APP
