BAHAWALPUR, Oct 22: The National Highway and Motorway Police will take over the section from Sutlej bridge, Bahawalpur, to Tarinda Muhammad Panah, Rahim Yar Khan, immediately after Eid. It was learnt here on Friday that the NH&MP staff would start patrolling on this highway section after Eid.

By then, it is expected that the under-construction portion of Bahawalpur-Ahmedpur East-Tarinda Muhammad Panah highway will be completed as the road from Bahawalpur to Tarinda via Ahmedpur East is being dualized. The road is connected with Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar (KLP) at Tarinda Muhammad Panah.

Initially, the NH&MP will only take over this portion to educate the drivers of the motorway traffic rules and will create awareness among motorists to observe the laws and avoid violations.

It is expected that after the training of drivers for about a month, the NH&MP will enforce traffic rules, which if violated, will be liable to be charged with fine. The Bahawalpur-Ahmedpur East-Tarinda Muhammad Panah portion of the national highway is expected to be completed by December, 2004.
