VEHARI, Oct 22: Mismanagement and improper disposal system of hospital waste has worsened the hygienic conditions of the local District Headquarters Hospital. The hospital waste has become a source of spreading various diseases due to the negligence of the hospital administration and para-medical staff.

The waste material, mainly dumped in various wards, toilets and washrooms, has turned the hygienic condition from bad to worse. Several complaints have been lodged with the hospital administration to dispose of the rubbish safely, but to no avail.

Some patients of the urology ward had to move to a private hospital due to unbearable foul smell of refuse. A surgical ward patient said that the sanitary staff usually collected the waste material after two to three days and never bothered to clean the wards and toilets properly.

Some patients said that 90 per cent flush system in various wards of the hospital had been out of order for the last few months. Upon visiting various wards of the hospital, this correspondent found them littered with rubbish. In surgical ward, several blood bags and used syringes were seen in windows around the beds.

When contacted, the surgical ward staff said that there was no regular sweeper in the ward. Another employee said the hospital was cleaned up only when it was visited by some ministers or high-ups.

According to him, the hospital MS spends most of his time in meetings with the DCO, the district Nazim and other health department officers. When contacted, MS Dr Nasir Dilshad said that all reports regarding mismanagement and unhygienic conditions in the hospital were baseless.
