SHIKARPUR: Three killed in ambush

Published October 23, 2004

SHIKARPUR, Oct 22: Two brothers and their guest were shot dead by a group of men in the Sardar Khan Chandio village, near Garhi Yasin, here on Friday morning.

Ubaidullah, his brother, Zafar Ali, and their guest, Syed Sabit Ali Shah, resident of the Sheranpur Thaheem village, were killed when 20 armed men, reportedly belonging to the Marfani community, who were hiding in bushes, opened fire on them. The bodies were taken to the Shikarpur Civil Hospital and later handed over to their relatives after post-mortem. The Karan police registered a case.

Our Sukkur Correspondent adds: Listening to the gunshots, armed persons of the Chandio tribe came out of their homes and an encounter took place between the attackers and the villagers for half an hour.

The attackers also fired rockets on the village but no one was hurt as the rockets fell in a nearby agricultural land. They later escaped. Police said the reason behind the incident was an old enmity over a minor issue between two groups of the Chandio tribe. Nine people have been killed and 12 injured in the dispute so far. Tension has prevailed in the area and both groups have entrenched against each other.
