LARKANA, Oct 22: The Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, on Friday ordered police to send a six-year-old girl, Samina, to Darul Aman and produce her in the court on Saturday. Justice Gulzar Ahmed also ordered production of her mother Hasina in the court.

The order was issued during proceedings on a petition filed by local coordinator of the Aurat Foundation Syed Jawed Shah. According to the petition, on the order of a jirga, the girl had been married to eight-year old Shaukat Solangi to settle a karo-kari dispute involving her father, Pyaro Jaj.

Khadim Solangi and Dr Roshan Paichuho, Larkana divisional organizer of the Sindh National Front, had allegedly held the jirga in the Laloorunk village on September 21 to settle the dispute in which Pyaro had been accused of having illicit relations with a woman of the Solangi community.

The jirga imposed Rs228,000 fine on the accused, besides ordering him to marry his daughter to the boy to compensate for humiliation caused to the Solangi family. Later Samina was married to Shaukat and sent to the boy's home.

During hearing on Thursday, the advocate for the petitioner, Inayat Morio, argued that holding jirga and marrying children were illegal and unconstitutional acts.

He prayed that Samina be recovered and handed over to her parents whereas those who had held the jirga be dealt with according to law. Dr Paichuho, Pyaro and the father of the boy, Abdul Jabbar Solangi, denied the charges and requested the judge to dismiss the petition.
