NEW DELHI, Oct 21: British Army Chief, General Sir Mike Jackson, visited the Line of Control Thursday as both countries discussed the efficacy of the ceasefire holding there between Indian and Pakistan troops.
There were no further details of the visit.
General Jackson, who is on his first visit to India, announced that India and Britain would undertake "first-of-its-kind" joint military exercises in March next. "It will be first-of-its-kind exercises between the two countries to be held in India," he was quoted by Press Trust of India as syaing.
"It is not just the common historical past which the two armies share, but military exchange programmes conducted from time to time is what drew them even closer," he said.
The General said it was "great advantage" for both the armies to have exchange programmes and joint exercises on a routine basis.-J.N.
