KARACHI: Notices issued in illegal confinement case
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Oct 21: The Sindh High Court issued notices to the advocate-general and the Bin Qasim Town police officer in a petition against the alleged arrest of a schoolboy by a law enforcement agency personnel.
Petitioner Mohammad Akhtar alleged that his son Mohammad Sadiq, a student of class VIII, was picked up by the LEA personnel from his house in Gulshan-i-Hadeed on Oct 6.
He said his house was earlier raided by police for the arrest of his elder son, Mohammad Ishaq, for his alleged links with an outlawed militant outfit. Sadiq was illegally taken away following the police failure to arrest Ishaq. He was told that Sadiq would not be released till Ishaq surrendered or was produced before the police.
The petitioner's counsel, Maqboolur Rehman, requested a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Maqbool Baqar, to order the release of unlawfully detained boy.
He said petitioner Akhtar was ready to produce Ishaq, the detainee's elder brother, if the police informed him of the case or cases he was sought to be arrested in. The bench issued notices to the respondents for Oct 28.
