HYDERABAD, Oct 19: The leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that the bill passed by the National Assembly on the uniform issue has no legal or constitutional validity.
He said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf had been hard pressed to legitimize his 'illegal rule' and added: "People are ready to resist his illegal rule."
He was talking to journalists and speaking at an Iftar party hosted by the People's Engineers Forum at the press club here on Monday.
Answering a question, the People's Party Parliamentarians leader, Mr Khuhro, said that the elected members of the PPP always tendered their resignations to the party leadership when they were awarded party tickets before a general election.
Therefore, if the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy decided to tender resignations in protest against the "illegal and unconstitutional rule" of the president, the submission of resignations would be no problem for the PPP legislators, he said.
He said that talks between the ARD and the Muttahida Majils-i-Amal were going-on. "The MMA has committed a blunder by supporting President Musharraf, therefore, the ARD has underlined some conditions for cooperating with it for launching a joint struggle against the president. He, however, claimed that the ARD alone was also in a position to launch a protest movement.
Mr Khuhro recalled that people of Sindh had given tremendous sacrifices in the Movement for Restoration of Democracy against Gen Ziaul Haq and added that Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim or someone else could not stem the tide of peoples' protest.
The PPP leader said that due to the fear of the unknown, President Musharraf was compelled to remain in uniform, adding that he was following Gen Zia.
