DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 19: The first e-government will soon be established in the district as part of the programme of the National E-government Commission, according to Federal Information Technology Minister Awais Khan Leghari.

At a meeting here on Tuesday, the minister directed the district coordination officer to prepare the PC-1 of the project. Senior officials of the district administration were present.

He told the participants that it would be the first e-government in the Punjab that would connect all departments of the district government. He said the revenue department would be computerized and even attendance of the employees of any department could be checked by the Nazim or the DCO.

In this connection, he said, the District Headquarters Hospital would be computerized next week.

The IT minister said the project would be completed in three years and lessen the burden of paperwork at the offices. Besides, it would make access to information easier for the people.

The District Bar Association has already been computerized and linked with internet facility. While the local press club will soon be facilitated with the availability of computers.

It is pertinent to mention that on the request of District Police Officer Salman Chaudhry, the police department has been included in the project. Non-devolved departments like information department, irrigation and Wapda are not part of the first e-government project.
