MIRPURKHAS, Oct 19: Power supply was suspended for four hours in a major part of lower Sindh after a fault developed in a high-tension line near Tando Jam on Tuesday.
The supply was cut from the Hala grid station in Hyderabad during Sehri hours, causing problems to people because the power disruption also affected water supply.
An official of the grid station said the power supply was restored after the fault in the 32kv line was removed.
PRISON: District Public Safety Commission chairman Pir Abdul Rehman Jan Sarhandi visited the district prison on Tuesday and inspected different barracks. He was accompanied by jail superintendent Ziaur Rehman Bajwa and DPSC secretary Amanullah Zardari.
Mr Sarhandi donated a TV set to the prison's juvenile section and said fans and television sets would also be provided to other barracks. He urged philanthropists to visit the district jail and donate for repairs of barracks, fans and other facilities.
The jail superintendent said Rs50,000 of the Zakat fund would be utilized on providing medical treatment and other basic facilities to prisoners.
CLASS BOYCOTT: Students belonging to the Jeay Sindh Students Federation boycotted classes at the Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary School here on Tuesday to protest occupation of the school land by a law-enforcement agency.
Speaking on the occasion, district JSSF president Zeeshan Laghari said the law-enforcement agency had occupied land in the premises of the school.
He warned that if the school was not vacated till Thursday, the students would stage a sit-in outside the DCO's office.
The principal of the school, Razia Durrani, assured the protesters that the school would be got vacated from the law enforcers.
UNIFORM: Sindh National Front leader Amir Bux Bhutto has said that the issue of president's uniform is not the problem of Sindh or the people of Sindh, rather it is the problem of those who are fighting for power. If a man in uniform was willing to solve problems of Sindh, the SNF would support him.
Speaking at a press conference here, Mr Bhutto said after Gen Ziaul Haq all the successive governments amended the Constitution to strengthen their rule, while no bill was passed in the assembly for the welfare of the masses.
He stated that the work on Thal canal was near completion while efforts were being made to begin work on Kalabagh Dam. However, he warned that if Kalabagh Dam was forcibly constructed, it would harm the country's integrity.
