Champions Trophy camp from Nov 1


KARACHI, Oct 18: Pakistan team's regional hockey camps in preparations for Champions Trophy will be held at Karachi and Lahore from Nov 1, assistant coach Asif Bajwa said on Monday.

He said players belonging to Quetta and Karachi will attend the camp at Hockey Club of Pakistan, Karachi while players from Punjab and NWFP will attend the camp at National Hockey Stadium Lahore.

He said same set of 20 players who featured in the eight Test match Dosti Series would be appearing in the training camp. Recalled half back Muhammad Saqlain would also be attending the camp.

Pakistan manager Olympian Samiullah Khan will supervise the training at Karachi while Asif Bajwa will be taking care of the camp in Lahore.

After one week training in the regional camp all the players will assemble in Lahore on Nov 8 or 9. The camp will have Eid-ul-Fitr break from Nov 14 and players will reassemble in Lahore on Nov 21.

Chief coach Roelant Oltmans will take charge of the team from Nov 22.

The Champions Trophy will be held at Lahore from Dec 4 to 12.

Olympic champions Australia had pulled out citing security reasons. India which finished 7th in Athens Olympics will replace Australia.

Other teams to compete are: the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, New Zealand and hosts Pakistan.

Players to attend the training camp are:

Salman Akber, Nasir Ahmed (goal-keepers); Sohail Abbas, Zeeshan Ashraf, Ghazanfar Ali, Muhammad Imran, Imran Ali Warsi (full-backs); Waseem Ahmed (captain), Adnan Maqsood, Dilawar Hussain Bhatti, Muhammad Saqlian, Abdul Asim Khan, Imran Khan (midfielders); Rehan Butt, Mudassar Ali Khan, Shakeel Abbasi, Adnan Zakir, Tariq Aziz, Kashif Jawwad, Akhtar Ali and Muhammad Shabbir (forwards).-APP
