LAHORE: Corruption besets FIA, observes LHC

By Our Correspondent

LAHORE, Oct 18: The Lahore High Court has observed that the FIA is no longer a credible investigating institution as it has developed a culture of corruption like police and the anti-corruption establishment.

This observation was made by Justice Bashir A Mujahid in the process of a writ petition here on Monday.

Khushi Muhammad of Gujranwala contended that an overseas employment promoter had cheated him in securing immigration for his two sons and the Gujranwala FIA demanded bribe for registering a case against the FIA officials concerned.

The judge directed the Gujranwala's FIA police station SHO to appear before court next week with the record of the case. The court asked federal government's standing council Tariq Shamim for assistance on the next day of hearing.

The petitioner submitted that he paid Rs770,000 to Babar and Nasir of an overseas employment promoting agency for the immigration of his two sons for employment in the UAE. His sons were transported to Dubai through illegal means and upon reaching the Gulf state they found that they had no visa stamps on their passports.
