KARACHI: Ibad seeks support for artists' welfare

KARACHI, Oct 18: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad said on Monday that he is personally contacting some multi-national companies to attach seasoned artists with them for promotion of art and welfare of artists.

This would not only encourage the artists, but also promote the cause of art, and the younger generation would be made aware of our art and cultural traditions.

He said this while talking to a delegation of "Daira Adab-o-Saqafat" who called on the governor.

The delegation was being led by Jamiluddin Aali and comprised Syed Azfar Rizvi, Syeda Hasina Rizvi, Zafar Mohyuddin, Javed Munir and Prof Dr Ansar Rizvi.

The governor welcomed the delegation's offer to hold "Daira Convention", and said there was a need for struggle against extremism in every section of the society, adding that the men of letters could play a significant role in this regard.

Regarding the allotment of a plot to the Dhaka Group of Institutions for educational purposes, the governor assured the delegation that due relief would be provided to the group following legal requirements. Noted artist Anwar Iqbal also called on him at the Governor's House.

Mr Iqbal had an exchange of views with the governor on the issue of artists welfare, and the governor assured him of all possible cooperation.

He said that various programmes had been chalked out to highlight cultural and social activities in Karachi.

He said that steps were being taken to keep the new generation informed of Sindh's civilization.-APP
