Sohail a great asset: president

ISLAMABAD Oct 16: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Saturday awarded a cash prize of Rs2million to penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas for creating a new world record of scoring 268 goals.

"Your world record is a great honour for the whole nation," the president said while congratulating Sohail.

President paid tributes to Sohail, saying he was the only hope for Pakistan team in critical situation of a match.

He declared Sohail as a great asset for the country and hoped he would bring more laurels. He reiterated his commitment towards the promotion of sports saying that government would continue awarding cash prizes to top sportsmen of the country.

Sohail broke the previous record of 276 goals by Paul Litjens of the Netherlands by scoring the 268th goal of his career against Indian in the seventh match of the eight-match series in Amritsar earlier this month.-PPI
