KARACHI, Oct 16: Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti of the Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi on Saturday remanded an activist of the Jundullah to police custody till Oct 24.

Adnan Shah alias Tipu is stated to be one of the co-accused involved in the corps commander's motorcade attack and policemen killing cases.

Tipu was produced before the court amid tight security. His arrest was shown by the CID Karachi two days back in the above mentioned cases. After his arrest, the number of arrested activists of the Jundullah has now become 11.

Attaur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah, Shahzad Mukhtar and Rao Khalid are facing charges in the case.

Investigation officers of the Boating Basin and Gulistan-i-Jauhar police stations on Saturday sought 14 days' remand of Adnan in respect of cases lodged against him besides and other accused.

The court, however, turned down the request and directed them to submit supplementary challans of the accused on the next date of hearing.

HEARING ADJOURNED: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi, headed by Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti, on Saturday adjourned the hearing of a trial against activists of the Jundullah, who are facing charges in six separate cases of terrorism pertaining to blasts and law-enforcers killing.

The hearing could not proceed on Saturday due to non-appearance of the defence counsel. The court fixed Oct 30 for the next hearing.

Attaur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah, Shahzad Mukhtar and Khalid Rao were produced before the court which is conducting the trial in central jail Karachi.

DIRECTIVE TO POLICE: Judicial Magistrate West Karachi Irshad Hasan issued production order of a prisoner after it came into his knowledge that the accused, imprisoned for the last three years, was not absconding.

The court was informed by Maqboolur Rehman, advocate, recently engaged for the accused that his client Mohammad Akram, whose case was put in a dormant file for being fugitive of law in illegal weapon case, was actually imprisoned at the Central Jail, Karachi.

He said the accused was incarcerated for three years after his arrest from SITE area on Feb 7, 2001, and he was not released on bail as his surety could not be furnished.

He said since then he was not produced before any court. He further informed the court that non-bailable warrants of the accused were issued and surety of the accused was ordered to be forfeited though no surety was furnished.

The court after ascertaining the facts issued production order of the accused for Oct 20 and directed the office to open the case of the accused.-PPI
