LAHORE: PAC seeks transfer of food officials

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Oct 16: The Public Accounts Committee-II of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday directed transfer of three district food controllers (DFCs) who had failed to comply with the directions of the body.

DFCs of Gujrat, Toba Tek Singh and Mianwali, Ijaz Rafiq, Talib Husain and Allah Ditta Saqib, respectively, had been ordered to relinquish their charge and report to the food directorate, Punjab.

The PAC-II as well as the food secretary had also issued displeasure and show-cause notices to the three officials under Punjab Removal from Service (Special Powers, amendment) Act 2003.

Committee chairman Asif Saeed Manais told reporters that it had deferred taking up audit paras of the Auqaf department for Tuesday as the department officials had failed to complete their working paper.

It also asked the department to get its accounts audited by the auditor-general and submit its report to the PAC.

Earlier, the task was being done by the local fund audit which, according to the committee, did not have wider scope.

It did not accept Auqaf secretary's view that as the department was generating funds for itself, it did not come under purview of the auditor-general.
