EC suspends 16 MPAs

ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: The Election Commission on Friday suspended the membership of 16 members of provincial assemblies for failing to submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities by the Sept 30 deadline.

A document issued by the Chief Election Commissioner Justice Irshad Hasan Khan said that the legislators would cease to function as members of the respective assemblies with immediate effect and till the statements were submitted to the commission.

Meanwhile, an official announcement said that all members of the National Assembly and Senate had submitted the statements of their own assets and liabilities and those of their spouses and dependents to the commission as required under Section 25A of the Senate (Election) Act 1975 and Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act 1976.

Of the 16 defaulting lawmakers, three were elected on reserved seats. The names of the suspended legislators are as following:

Punjab: Faisal Hayat Jaboona (PP-82 Jhang-X), Khush Akhtar Subhani (PP-125 Sialkot-V), Pir Syed Saeedul Hassan Shah (PP-132 Narowal-I), Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan (PP-149 Lahore- XIII) Rana Muhammad Tajammal Hussain (PP-157 Lahore-XXI), Chaudhary Muhammad Ilyas Khan (PP-175 Kasur-I), Dr Nazir Ahmad Mithu Dogar (PP-233 Vehari-II) and Ms Khalida Mansoor (reserved seat).

Sindh: Mir Ghulam Abid Khan Sundrani (PS-17 Jacobabad- V), Altaf Hussain Unar (PS-35 Larkana-I), Ms Farzana (reserved seat for women) and Yaqoob Ilyas (reserved seat for non-Muslims).

NWFP: Shad Muhammad Khan (PF-39 Kohat-III) and

Balochistan: Sardar Masood Ali Khan (PB-14 Loralai), Muhammad Asim Kurd Gailoo (PB-30 Kachhi-I) and Prince Faisal Dawood (PB-37 Kalat-II).
