ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has said the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition against him on Thursday will come up before the house for debate and voting on Oct 22.

Talking to reporters in his chamber in the Parliament House on Friday, the speaker said under rules, there would be no agenda other than the no-trust motion for the assembly session on that day.

Rejecting the opposition's claim, Mr Hussain said that under rules, he could preside over the assembly sessions. The motion had been submitted to the secretariat, but it had not been moved, he pointed out.

The speaker said the secretary of the National Assembly had circulated the notice of the motion among members as per rules. Criticizing the opposition's behaviour in the house, Mr Hussain said he was not aware as to why they had made him the target of their criticism. He described as 'uncalled for' the opposition's behaviour during Thursday's session.

He alleged that opposition members not only broke his mike but also overturned his empty chair. Replying to a question, the NA speaker said that he or the National Assembly secretary had not received the resignation of Dr Tahirul Qadri.
