PESHAWAR, Oct 14: The NWFP Governor's Secretariat (Fata) had received the first tranche of Rs500 million for the re- organization of different law-enforcement agencies in seven tribal agencies and six Frontier Regions (FR), officials said.

Under the estimated Rs1210 million project, titled "Reorganisation of Law-enforcement Agencies in Fata" the three security forces - Frontier Constabulary, Levy and Khasadar - will be merged into a single force in the region along the Afghan border.

The federal government is financing the project to be completed in the next three years. The annual expenditure after the completion of the project, has been estimated at Rs803 million which will be met through routine budget allocation for Khasadar and Levies forces.

An official said that the project would help strengthen the Law-enforcement agencies in the seven tribal agencies of Mohmand, Bajaur, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan, South Waziristan and six Frontier Regions.

Apart from this the federal government had allocated Rs700 million for border security in the tribal region in the current annual development programme. The main objective of the project is to streamline and reactivate the paramilitary forces to protect government property in tribal areas and along the Pakistan-Afghan border.

Informed sources said that in the first phase the organization structure would be modified under the new systems of tribal collective responsibility, collective punishment, tax collection and Jirga etc.
