JACOBABAD, Oct 14: Five men were killed and seven injured in a series of attacks carried out by the Sabzoi and Chachar tribesmen against each other in the Kandhkot area on Thursday.

A group of armed Sabzoi tribesmen stormed a hotel frequently thronged by the Chachar tribesman in the Tangwani area. As a result, Anwar Chachar was killed on the spot and four others were seriously injured.

In retaliation, heavily armed Chachar tribesmen opened fire at a wagon stand, killing Gul Mohammad and Ghulam Rasool Sabzoi and injuring three others. The Sabzoi tribesmen then attacked the Abdul Qadir Chachar village, killing Abdul Waheed Chachar and an unidentified person.

The attacks caused fear and panic in the area. However, TPO Abdul Sattar said that the situation was under control and police had set up the check-posts and started patrolling in the area in armoured personnel carriers. It is said that motive behind the attacks was a dispute over a piece of land near Golimar on the outskirts of the Kandhkot town.

OUR SUKKUR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Tension has mounted in the area where shops have been closed and armed men from both the tribes are hunting for their rivals. The dispute between both the tribes started 22 years ago and so far has claimed 35 lives and left 100 persons injured.
