Hasan and Farhan rescue Blues

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 11: Test rejects Hasan Raza and Farhan Adil shared a century partnership to lift Karachi Blues out of trouble against Karachi Whites on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National cricket championship match here on Monday.

Hasan carved out a stylish 72 while Farhan was batting on 61, alongside Blues skipper Rashid Latif (11), as Karachi Blues ended the day at 262 for five in reply to 451 for seven made by Karachi Whites. The pair added exactly 100 after the first four wickets had fallen for 129.

Hasan, who hit 11 fours and one six in his 66-ball knock, became pacer Fahad Khan's third victim in the closing overs. Fahad also sent back Naumanullah (13) and Asim Kamal, who gained some useful practice before next week's first Test against Sri Lanka at Faisalabad. The left-hander made a solid 31 off 64 balls with four boundaries.

Shadab Kabir, the ex-Test opener, also looked in excellent touch before he was out 57. The left-hander, who struck seven fours in his 79-ball innings, was disappointed when umpire Afzaal Ahmed adjudged him LBW to Asim Zaidi.

Earlier, Karachi Whites added 114 runs to their overnight tally of 337 for three before skipper Faisal Iqbal closed the innings. Faisal, who resumed at 70, played onto left-arm pace man Nasir Khan for 84.

But Zeeshan Pervez, who was badly dropped by Ali Gohar off Kaneria on five late on Sunday, played some lovely drives in his 75 before he was brilliantly caught in front of the first slip by a diving Rashid Latif. Zeeshan's 130-ball innings contained 13 fours and one six. Karachi Blues still need 40 runs to avoid the follow-on.
