Appeal to maintain sectarian harmony

LAHORE, Oct 11: The Islamic Defence Front (Difa-i-Islam Mahaz) has termed the recent wave of bomb blasts a conspiracy of secret agencies to divert public attention from the issue of President Musharraf's uniform.

Noting that there was no Shia-Sunni rift in society, the front has appealed to ulema and prayer leaders to observe a solidarity day on Friday (Oct 15) and mobilize people to maintain unity and harmony.

Convener Dr Safaraz Naeemi told reporters after a meeting of the front here on Monday that it had condemned the conspiracy of dividing the nation on sectarian grounds. The meeting urged upon all ulema and religious scholars to step up their efforts from their respective platforms for maintaining peace in society.

Dr Naeemi told a questioner that uniform of Gen Musharraf was a public issue because with the help of it he was implementing US agenda of converting the country into a secular state against wishes of the people.

Meanwhile, Imamia Students Organization President Syed Nasir Abbas Sherazi has strongly condemned the suicide bomber attack on Kashmirian Jamia Mosque in Mochi Gate. Speaking at an ISO meeting here on Monday, he said the anti-Islam forces wanted to deface the real identity of Islam.

He stressed that Muslims should understand this conspiracy being hatched against Islam. He said Shias and Sunnis should sit together and sink their differences. Mr Sherazi, who is also Muttahida Tulaba Mahaz chairman, said the Shias had always opposed terrorism. He said Israel was indirectly involved in the terrorist activities.
