Fazl rejects conditions

PESHAWAR, Oct 11: Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rahman has criticized what he called 'double standards' of the ARD leadership in politics and for asking the MMA to renounce the 17th Amendment to the Constitution.

He said this reflected their political immaturity and lack of seriousness. In a statement on Monday, he said the ARD had invited certain components of the MMA to its round-table Conference in Lahore and added it was astonishing to note that the MMA had been asked to renounce the 17th Amendment.

He said the ARD lacked seriousness in politics as it invited some of MMA's component parties and put conditions on the alliance to do this or that for an invitation to their conference in Lahore.

"Is it mature politics?" he asked. He termed it a deliberate attempt to create divisions in the ranks of MMA. The Maulana said that in politics, no political party was subservient to others. -APP
