PESHAWAR: Rehabilitation centreset up for beggars

PESHAWAR, Oct 11: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani will inaugurate a rehabilitation centre for women beggars here on Wednesday. It has been set up by the provincial government.

The announcement was made by the provincial Minister for Zakat and Usher, Hafiz Hashmat, here at a press conference on Monday. He was accompanied by Kashif Azam, provincial Minister for Social Welfare.

The minister said that the government had fulfilled another of its pre-election promise by setting up what he termed Darul Kifala for women beggars. Earlier, the government established a similar institution for male beggars where professional alms seekers were being trained and imparted skill education.

The Darul Kifala for women beggars has been established in the Hayatabad township and it would be functional from the day of its inauguration. The minister said that the centre would accommodate between 120 and 160 women baggers for three months, adding that they would be imparted different vocational skills there.

The programme would be launched on experimental basis in Peshawar and its scope would later be expanded to other districts, he said. -APP
