LAHORE: Punjab PA body finds SI guilty of misconduct
By Our Staff Reporter
LAHORE, Oct 11: The Privilege Committee of the Punjab Assembly on Monday found sub-inspector Farooq Abbasi guilty of misconduct with a woman MPA of the PPP-Parliamentarians.
However, it delayed taking action against Abbasi until Oct 13 (Wednesday) to take views of some opposition MPAs who could not join today's proceedings due to certain reasons.
The police official had barred Farzana Raja from entering a NAB court in Rawalpindi when her husband, Pir Mukarramul Haq, was being produced there in a reference. The official had claimed that his higher authorities had verbally ordered him not to allow entry of any "irrelevant" person.
The committee, headed by Malik Nazar Farid Khokhar, summoned Rawalpindi DIG Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmad on Monday, besides seeking briefing from the law department on procedure of NAB courts.
The DIG informed the body that police high-ups could not issue any directions to the official as he was on deputation in NAB. The law department told the committee that the NAB court registrar could issue written directions for banning entry of anyone in case of any threat to the accused being produced in the court.
