TIP offers cooperation to ARD

HYDERABAD, Oct 10: If the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy contacts the Tehrik-i-Insaf Pakistan for launching a joint movement on the uniform issue, the party will cooperate with the alliance.

This was said by the provincial president of the TIP, Mirza Jahangir, at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday. However, he said that the ARD and other parties were opposing uniform but they were also waiting for their turn to enter the corridors of power.

He said that the TIP had decided to launch a movement on the issue and it would run a mass contact movement throughout Sindh during next two months to motivate the people to take to the streets.

Mr Jahangir said that a president in uniform and one man rule was not acceptable to people because they rendered elected assemblies and democratic institutions ineffective.

He criticised the legislators for adopting resolutions in favour of uniform and called upon the people to reject such politicians in future elections.

He added that those who had voted in favour of uniform had done so to protect their personal interests. He said that President Musharraf had only one objective, to perpetuate himself in power, and the Wana operation had been launched to appease America.
