Fazl phones Benazir, seeks support

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: MMA's Secretary-General Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday talked with chairperson of the People's Party Parliamentarians Benazir Bhutto by telephone.

Later, he met PPP President Amin Fahim at his residence. He was accompanied by MNA Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Senator Raza Rabbani and MNA Raja Pervez Ashraf.

It was learnt that the two sides discussed matters relating to President's uniform.

Talking to Dawn, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had sought ARD's cooperation for the MMA's campaign against president's uniform.

He said that Maulana Fazl explained the alliance's point of view to the ARD leaders on the 17th Amendment, which he said was thought to give the army constitutional passage.

Maulana Fazl also told PPP leaders that the MMA-government talks had been deadlocked only on the uniform issue while all other points had almost been settled.

The PPP president assured the MMA leaders that the MMA's stance on the uniform issue would be discussed in the ARD's meeting to be held in Lahore on Sunday.
