LAHORE, Oct 6: A no-confidence motion against Union Council No 78 Naib Nazim Malik Faisal Maqsud was on Wednesday carried by a majority vote.

Eleven councillors voted against the UC Naib Nazim through a secret ballot held after the meeting presided over by councillor Rao Javed Iqbal. The meeting was convened under instructions from Punjab Local Government Secretary Naguibullah Malik.

The union council meeting for considering the no-confidence motion against the Naib Nazim belonging to the ruling PML was held after a one year struggle by councillors Haji Ghulam Muhammad and Shajaruddin as UC Nazim Malik Abdul Rehman also belonged to the PML and was not ready to convene the meeting to consider the motion. The latter filed a writ petition in the high court which directed the Punjab Local Government Secretary to arrange holding of the meeting.

TEAMS: Special monitoring teams comprising Nazims, councillors, police and consumers have been constituted for checking the prices of essential commodities duriug Ramazan and punishing the profiteers on-the-spot.

Provincial Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Anwar disclosed this while presiding over a meeting held here on Wednesday to finalize arrangements for setting up the Coop Stores stalls at the Ramazan bazaars in the province. He said the consumers should lodge complaints against the shopkeepers indulging in overcharging with the monitoring teams for prompt action.

He said the government had decided to establish Ramazan bazaars at the union council level to ensure availability of essential commodities like fruit, vegetables, ghee, eggs, pulses, gram flour, chicken, beef and mutton at lower prices than the open market.
