LAHORE: Ex-MNA released after plea bargain

LAHORE, Oct 6: Former PPP MNA Sheikh Mansoor Ahmad was released from jail after three city accountability courts accepted his plea bargain in three references charging him with embezzlement in the Pasban Cooperative Finance Corporation as its chairperson.

Total liability as calculated by courts was about Rs20 million and the former MNA has since paid Rs110 million. He gave an undertaking in courts that he would pay the remaining amount in three months.

Sheikh Mansoor was arrested in January 2001 and has since been behind the bars. Advocate Manzoor Malik brokered plea bargain with the three courts as his counsel.

He was standing trial in three accountability courts of Lahore, No 2, No 4 and No 5. He was freed from the Camp Jail in the evening after about three years and 10 months.
