Pakistan play 600th one-dayer today

KARACHI, Oct 5: Pakistan will reach another notable landmark in the One-day International history when they play their 600th match on Wednesday here at the National Stadium.

Pakistan, already having the record of most ODI matches to their credit, played their 599th limited-overs international against Zimbabwe in Peshawar on Sunday. Sri Lanka, who are Pakistan's opponents on Wednesday, also were involved in the 100th ODI played by Pakistan.

On that occasion, Pakistan won by 81 runs in the Asia Cup match at Colombo's P. Saravanamuttu Stadium in 1985-86. Pakistan also won their 200th ODI, beating West Indies by five wickets at Lahore in 1990-91.

Pakistan, who lost their inaugural ODI against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1972-73,then emerged victors in the 300th ODI, defeating arch-rivals India in the Asia Cup fixture at Sharjah in 1994-95 by 97 runs.

However, Pakistan finished losers in both their 400th ODI and 500th ODIs. Sri Lanka beat them by 115 runs in the triangular tournament in the South African town of Benoni in 1997-98. Australia won Pakistan's 500th ODI by nine wickets at Lord's in the final of the NatWest Series in 2001.

On home soil, Pakistan have featured in 136 matches, winning 83, losing 49, one ending in a tie and three no-results. Away from home, Pakistan have won 83 out of 187 ODIs against 96 losses.

Four matches were tied and the same number finished as no-results. On netural venues, Pakistan have chalked up 155 victories against 115 defeats in 276 ODIs with one match tied and five no-results. Break-up of Pakistan's 599 One-day Internationals played against each country before Wednesday:
