PESHAWAR, Oct 5: The Water and Power Development Authority has sought local body representatives' help to end power pilferage and illegal connections.

Speaking at an open kutchery organized by the Peshawar Electric Supply Company here on Tuesday, Minister of State for Water and Power Amir Muqam Khan asked nazims and councillors to join hands with Wapda in its campaign against illegal connections and power theft.

He said nazims and councillors should apprise residents of their constituencies of the negative effects of taking connections directly from Wapda poles and power distribution lines. He said local bodies institutions should persuade people into paying bills on time.

Elimination of illegal connections, he pointed out, would help improve Pesco and other distribution companies to overcome their line and financial losses and lead to improvement of the distribution system.

The minister warned Wapda staff of disciplinary action if any one of them was found involved in excess billing, wrong meter reading and delayed distribution of bills to consumers.
