Navy shooters reign supreme

KARACHI, Oct: 4. Pakistan Navy stole the show in the 3/20 rifle 50 metre rifle shooting three position ladies event, when Nadia Saeed with 660.6 points out of a total of 709, picked up the gold , followed by team-mate Habbira grabbing silver with 644.8 points and Urooj Fatima the bronze with 637.7 points at the Pakistan Naval Shooting Range at PNS Karsaz on Monday.

With Nadia, Habbira and Urooj bagging the first three slots, the Navy easily picked up the gold for the team event with 1671 points out of 1800. Pakistan Army represented by Sajida, Naheed and Hajira with 1493 points to their credit, picked up the silver with Wapda represented by Misbah, Abida and Sobia snatching the bronze totalling 1430 points.

In the men's events Navy bagged gold and silver medals through Zahid Ali gaining 554 points out of 600, just edging out his counterpart Irshad Ali, who scored 553 points in the 25 metre standard pistol event. Army picked up the bronze through Kabeer, who scored 551 points.

Navy represented by Zahid Ali, Irshad Ali and Arshad Awan collected the team's gold medal accumulating 1655 points out of 1800. The silver medal went to the Army through Kabeer, Mushtaqeem and Khalil with 1623 points and Wapda won the bronze through I.A. Khan, Javaid Umer and Saqib Ikram totalling 1591 points.

Ahmed Sultan and Khurram Inam presented Sindh with the gold and silver in the Skeet Olympic event scoring 143 and 141 points out of a total of 150. Shafique from the Navy won the bronze with 140 points.

In the team event, Sindh grabbed the gold through Khurram Inam, Ahmed Sultan and Amin Karamat scoring 223 points out of a maximum 225. Lt. Cdr. S.A. Noor, R.M. Siddiqui and Abdul Sattar won silver for the Navy with 202 points, while the Army had to be content with the third spot after Col. Fakar, Brig. Sikander and Maj. Abu Bakar could only score 183 points out of the maximum 225.
