KARACHI: KU told to monitor colleges regularly

KARACHI, Oct 4: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Monday directed all the universities in the province to make their system of inspection of colleges regular and effective.

Moreover, the standard of affiliation of colleges be also improved, he said while presiding over a meeting at the Governor's House. He asked the Karachi University, with which a large number of colleges are affiliated, to immediately chalk out a system of inspections and said steps be taken for brining an improvement in the standard of colleges by bringing regularity in inspections.

The authorities of universities should evolve a system in this regard, he said when he was informed that except for Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, no other university, including Karachi University, had adopted any inspection procedure although a large number of colleges are affiliated to them.

The governor was informed that the Shah Latif University conducts regular inspection of its affiliated colleges according to which zero attendance of students had been checked at certain colleges.

The governor took notice of the situation and called for regular inspection of colleges to improve the standard of educational institutions. He said that disaffiliating the colleges was not a solution to the problem. Instead steps be taken to improve their working and quality of education.

He called for coordinated efforts by the education minister and respective VCs and concerned officials. for improving the situation in those colleges which have been affected because of resource constraints or administrative problems.

Calling for improving the communication skills of students, he pointed out that students do excel in their respective subjects, but in certain circumstances they cannot express their capabilities properly.

A student, no matter which field or subject he is associated with, he necessarily needs to have the capability of writing and speaking, and specially expressing himself in English, he said, adding, due to lack of this capability, they could not acquire the cherished position at local and international levels when they enter the practical world.

He directed that special courses be started in all the universities of Sindh for students to enhance their capability of writing and speaking English. Calling for improving the standard of education at colleges, he said colleges serve as nurseries for universities. When nurseries will not be well-placed, how the universities would be able to bring talented and capable persons to the fore, he questioned. - Agencies
