QUETTA, Oct 4: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Balochistan Chapter, has urged the government to take measures to end honour killings and molestation of girls in the province.
The monthly meeting of the commission held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Tahir Mohammad Khan, observed that during the last few months the incidents of extra-judicial killings, honour killings and molestation of girls had increased in Balochistan.
A report submitted at the meeting said that around 10 incidents of extra-judicial killings had taken place in Khuzdar, Angira, Sanjavi and Quetta while many others were wounded in firing incidents.
The report said that murdering women had become order of the day in different areas of Balochistan in the name of honour. It was observed that half a dozen girls were killed after being molested in Quetta and some other areas.
The meeting was dissatisfied with the treatment meted out to minorities and observed that kidnapping for ransom was on the rise. The role of media was criticized for not giving coverage to human rights violations.
Speaking at the meeting, the HRCP chairperson expressed concern over the situation and demanded that the government should take steps to control extra-judicial killings, honour killings and molestation of girls.
The meeting formed three committees to supervise the Afghan Presidential Elections on Oct 9. The committees would visit polling stations in Panjpai, Qila Abdullah, Mohammad Khel and Quetta to monitor the election process.
THREE KILLED: Three persons were shot dead and another was seriously injured in an ambush on Monday near Jhal-Jhao area of Awaran district of Balochistan, some 600km south of here.
According to reports reaching here, four persons were on their way to Awaran in a car from Quetta. When they reached near Jhal-Jhao area, unknown armed men sitting at the top of the mountains opened fire at them with automatic weapons, killing three of them on the spot. The outlaws fled after the attack.
Levies officials rushed to the site after receiving information about the incident and removed the injured and bodies to the Awaran hospital. "All the three killed belong to Quetta," the levies officials in Awaran said when contacted on telephone.
The dead were identified as Naik Mohammad, Ghulam Mohammad and Javed Ahmed while the injured was Tahir Mohammad Yousufzai. The cause was killing could not be ascertained.
