PESHAWAR: Steps urged to curb crimes

By Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 4: A local NGO, Sharp, has expressed concern over deteriorating law and order situation in the NWFP and has urged the provincial government to take effective measures to curb crimes in the province.

A press release issued on Monday said that the situation is evident from the record collected by NGO's help line during September, which showed 224 crimes during August.

In most of the cases the culprits could not be arrested which is a failure of police. During the same month, 29 persons lost their lives committing suicide, in which 19 were males and 10 females.

The factors behind committing suicide remained unemployment, family disputes, depression and financial crisis. It said that two cases of domestic violence have been reported and it is again very unfortunate that a large number included violence against women. In the past month 19 cases of kidnapping have been recorded.
