KARACHI, Oct 4: The pace of ongoing development works at the Lyari General Hospital was found to be unsatisfactory. The issue was discussed on Monday at a briefing given to the newly appointed provincial Health Secretary Noshad Sheikh during his visit to the hospital.

Complaints regarding slow pace of uplift works have been received from staff members and patients at the hospital, who held the development agency concerned responsible for it and cited bad planning as the main reason for the slackness.

The secretary assured the meeting that all out efforts would be made for early completion of the LGH uplift project. Mr Sheikh, who had served the hospital as its medical superintendent, said he would also take up the issue with the development agency concerned.

Earlier, LGH Medical Superintendent Dr Ali Nawaz Khoso briefed the secretary about various ongoing uplift projects at the hospital. Director-general, Health, Sindh, Husain Bakhsh Memon, and the World Health Organization advisor Azmudeh were also present on the occasion.

The plan to improve infrastructure facilities at the hospital had been launched in May last, and to execute its first phase the Sindh government had released a total amount of Rs15 million, the MS said. The funds were meant for improvement and repair of the hospital's drainage system, operation theatre, lift services, doors, windows and lavatories, etc, he added.
