KARACHI, Oct 3: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has called for organizing handicraft fairs and meena bazaars to help provide employment opportunities to poor and destitute skilled women.

"These events can help veiled women to earn their livelihood respectfully at their homes", he said while inaugurating a handicraft mela at the Women Sports Complex here on Friday night.

The festival for skilled women, being held under the aegis of culture, ports and community development department, will continue from Oct 1 to 4. At the mela, handicrafts by skilled family women, bangles, jewellery, boutique and other products have been put on display.

The City Nazim appreciated the spirit and plans of working women and other women welfare organizations. He observed that working on self-help basis would help in reducing poverty and unemployment.

He told the gathering that women councillors, in coordination with welfare organizations, are holding handicraft festivals and meena bazaars for helping the poor and helpless skilled women.

Naimatullah Khan said there is no dearth of talent here, but what was required is to give them an opportunity of showing it up. The ceremony was also addressed by EDO Community Iqbal Ahmed Zubedi, DO Saifur Rehman Grami, Advisor to City Nazim Gohar Islam, Qazi Sadruddin, Arifa Usama, Naheed Abidi, Nadima and others. -APP
