Six killed in Kashmir violence
SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Six people including a pro-India party worker and four suspected Mujahideen were killed on Saturday in fresh violence in occupied Kashmir, security officials said.
Guam Mohammad Chichi, an activist belonging to the ruling People's Democratic Party, was shot dead in southern Anantag district by freedom fighters, police said. Mr Chichi was from the constituency of Pahalgam where Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is seeking election to the lower legislature house.
An Indian military spokesman said three Mujahideen died in a clash with soldiers in Magam-Kokernag, 70 kilometres from Indian Srinagar. They were believed to belong to the Lashkar-i-Taiba.
A fourth rebel was killed in a gunfight with soldiers in southern Pulwama district while a civilian died after being hit in crossfire, the military spokesman said.
Indian troops also recovered 60 kilograms of high explosives when they picked up two men northwest of Srinagar who were apparently working as couriers for militants, he said.-AFP
