Saira's fine sprint double, Nosheen breaks own record
QUETTA, Oct 2: Saira Afzal completed a great sprint double when she outpaced her rivals to claim 200m gold clocking 26.2 seconds on Saturday at the Ayub Stadium.
She on Friday became the fastest woman winning the 100m. Army's Naseem Hameed and Mehereen Khan chased her all the way but failed to catch the sprint queen. But the day's honours went to Army's Noshee Parveen when she bettered her own record in triple jump. Nosheen later collected second gold outpacing her opponents to win 100m hurdles in a time of 15.50sec.
Her team-mate Fouzia Aurangzeb took the silver and Bashiran Bibi the bronze.
Noshee eclipsed her old record of 11.33 metres with a leap of 11.39. Bazgha Shameen of Wapda claimed the silver with her effort of 10.93 metres and Rozian Shafqat of Army grabbed the bronze clearing 10.61m.
As the quest for medals intensified all points out to be a close race between Wapda and the reigning champions Army. Wapda also snatched gold in women's hammer throw and 1500m and finished day on high note winning golds in men's 400m hurdles, 400m, 800m and 110m hurdles.
Army's successes on track and field came courtesy Safdar Nazir (3000 steeplechase) and Waseem Khan (long jump).
Wapda bagged gold and silver in 1500m when Gulnaz Ara timed 5:41.30sec in the 1500m. She was closely followed by Shugufta Naureen with her time of 5:45.0sec and Samreen Naz of Army got the bronze with a time of 6:11.50sec.
