PESHAWAR: Life term awarded for drug trafficking

PESHAWAR, Oct 2: The additional district and sessions judge, Tariq Yousafzai, on Saturday convicted an accused for drug trafficking and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 100,000.
The accused was arrested by Police Station Bhadabher on Feb 11, 2002, while he was travelling in a car. The police had recovered 700kg of charas from the vehicle. The accused was charged under section 9(c) of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act, 1997.
The public prosecutor contended that the accused was arrested on the spot. He added that the contraband was seized from the vehicle.
REMANDED: A travelling agent accused of human trafficking was remanded in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for three days by a local judicial magistrate on Saturday.
The accused was arrested from cantonment area. The officials claimed that passports and bogus travelling documents were seized from him.
The officials informed the court that the accused had given advertisements asking people to apply for certain posts in the Defence Ministry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They added that the said advertisements and the activities of the agent were illegal.
