KARACHI: Steps for safe gas supply in new buildings urged


KARACHI, Oct 1: The first meeting of the Oversee Committee of the Karachi Building Control Authority was held on Friday under its chairman and chief minister's adviser on Local Government Waseem Akhtar.

Mr Akhtar stressed on maintaining a check on building control system at every level and adopting positive thinking. The advisor directed the officials concerned that during construction of buildings, special care be taken of gas fittings, so as to avoid any possible leakage and the resultant damage to the structure.

With reference to commercialization of 17 roads, Mr Akhtar directed that revenue generated from these roads should be spent on the welfare of the area concerned, and asked EDOs of Works and Services, and Water, to carry out proper planning in this regard.

He also issued directive for better utilization of betterment charges recovered by the KBCA and transferred to the city government, so that more funds could be made available for the city's development.

He ordered preparation of rules of business for the next meeting, and said the committee should meet on the first Saturday of every month. He observed that regular holding of the committee meetings would help produce best proposals for the city's uplift.
