Landmines conference on 11th

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD Sept 30: A conference is being organized by the Community Motivation and Development Organization (CMDO) and Pakistan Campaign to Ban Landmines (PCBL) on October 11 in Islamabad.

Along with Afghanistan, which remained a major victim use of anti personnel land mines for years, the federally administered tribal areas (Fata) have also been worst affected by the fallout of the Afghan war of 1979-89.

Thousands of people had died or injured or become disabled due to landmines and UXOs. The topic of the conference is "Landmines and Children of Universe". It is expected to be attended by senior diplomats, academicians, intellectuals, development practitioners, media persons, politicians and political executives.

The speakers will talk on the issue of landmines and its impact on civilians particularly children. It will also provide information to the public opinion leaders about the whole issue and thrash out the issue to set forth some concrete recommendations to form the basis of future public policy.
