GUJRAT, Sept 30: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company has reportedly failed to ensure uninterrupted supply in many parts of the district for the last 10 days.

During a survey on Wednesday, a number of consumers asked why breakdown occurred repeatedly when temperature as well as overall electricity demand remained low during the period.

Some of them said that they had been told by the respective complaint centres that load shedding was being carried out because of power shortage. Many alleged that telephones at complaint centres remained constantly engaged whenever the breakdown occurred.

Another major problem which the consumers have been facing for the last 15 days is power fluctuations resulting in damaging the electric appliances. Saad of Faizabad, Faizul Hasan of Noorpur Padday, Imran of Kalupura and Waheed of Ramtlai Road said that their localities had been facing fluctuation and intermittent power breakdown for the previous two weeks.

Traders of Sargodha main bazaar and Railway Road also complained of three to four hours electricity shutdown in a day for the last one week causing them financial loss.

Lalamusa is no exception in this regard. Scores of people told Dawn that they had been facing intermittent power suspension for the previous two weeks but the situation worsened due to some major shutdown during the last two days.

They said Lalamusa witnessed two-hour shutdown on Monday and Tuesday nights and eight-hour breakdown on Wednesday. No senior Gepco official was present in his office for comments.

However, a spokesman at Lalamusa office said there was no shortage of electricity and the company was not carrying out load shedding. He, however, did not have any answer to the power breakdown on Wednesday.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of workers of power loom factories have reportedly been rendered jobless during the last three days due to eight-hour power suspension by Faisalabad Electric Supply Company.

Students of various computer colleges were also worried about their studies. A Fesco official said load shedding was being carried out from Faisalabad grid station. Citizens have protested over this situation and demanded proper load management.

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: The Wapda authorities are testing the patience of people as almost half-day power shutdown is being witnessed now-a-days. The power supply was suspended at 3pm and restored around 8:30pm on Wednesday evening. The shutdown occurred at 10am on Thursday and remained discontinued till 2:30pm.
