TOBA TEK SINGH: Amjad's family files application

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 28: The elder brother of Amjad Farooqi, the alleged brain behind the two attempts on the life of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, failed even on the second consecutive day on Tuesday to talk to government higher-ups to demand his body.

Amjad was killed in an 'encounter' with police in Nawabshah on Sunday afternoon. His brother Javed Farooqi has been trying to contact the government higher-ups, including Federal Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao, but all in vain.

Javed informed newsmen that he had failed to contact the minister or any other higher-up. However, he said, he had a telephonic contact with DPO Saad Akhtar Bharwana who received a written application filed by his father Chaudhry Afzal Gujjar.

The applicant demanded the custody of his son's body so that he could be buried at his native Chak 687/27 GB. The DPO had assured him that the application would be forwarded to the higher authorities, he said.

ROBBERY: Robbers on Monday night drove away with a mini-truck loaded with cotton and polyester yarn worth more than Rs1 million. Reports said a truck (TSB-4050) was coming from Faisalabad to the district to transport yarn to a powerloom factory.

Near Dawakri on the Painsara-Gojra Road, five armed men appeared on a pick-up. They drove away with the vehicle after dragging driver Muhammad Ayub and his helper to an unknown place.
