KARACHI: Six killed in road accidents

KARACHI, Sept 28: Six persons died in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday. A van belonging to the Civil Aviation Authority hit two men on a motorcycle in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday.
Police said that the van (KA-8829) hit and injured Mohammad Adnan and Mohammad Ashfaq. Both the wounded victims were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where they died during treatment. Police arrested the errant driver.
According to the police, both the victims were in milk business. An NLC tanker knocked down a 55-year-old man near Jauhar Chowrangi in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday. Police said that Buksh Ali was knocked down to death by an NLC tanker.
They said that area people got hold of the tanker driver and gave him a severe beating before handing him over to the police. Some enraged youths also tried to set the vehicle on fire, but, police foiled their attempt.
In Quaidabad, a motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run accident on Tuesday. Police said that Abid Sultan, 40, was on his motorcycle when a speeding vehicle knocked him down at Quaidabad Chowk. His body was sent to the JPMC for legal formalities.
According to the police, the victim was a resident of Future Colony. In Sohrab Goth, a young man was crushed to death by a speeding truck. Police said that Bashir Khan was crossing the road when he was knocked down to death by a speeding truck (LS-619) near Super Highway. His body was shifted to hospital for autopsy.
On National Highway, a 60-year-old pedestrian died in a hit- and-run accident on Tuesday. Police said that the elderly man was crossing the main thoroughfare when he was knocked down. His body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities.
SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in North Karachi late Monday night. Police said that Amjad Ali, 30, resident of North Karachi's Sector 1/A3 had left his house late Monday night.
A few hours later, police found the body of an unidentified man from Sector 5/A3. They shifted the body to hospital for autopsy. Following the post mortem examination, the body was shifted to Edhi morgue for identification purpose. On Tuesday morning, victim's brother Rashid identified the body. Police said that they were investigating the case.
